Crime & Punishment: An Opinion -- Pete

Here is my response to question II: "Is prison an effective deterrent against crime?"

It is undeniable that one coin has two sides, but how do people look at one coin? Some might notice it’s just a coin. Some might look only one side.

Some might look both sides head and tail. As same as laws, laws have been developed by us human in order to maintain their beloved social system. However, that is just one side of laws, and the other sides can be used as opposite way.

Do you believe in justice? Someone might do whilst someone might not.

A reason is both simple and complicated at the same time because people with different backgrounds have a hard time to acknowledge one another. That’s why we human needs a tool to protect ourselves and maintain our peace. Anyway, this tool has been used many times to take advantage. Laws aren’t perfect as same as human, but have people ever tried to understand one another? How many more times we intend to keep hurting one another? How many more lives shall human cast demise upon? How much more tear do we need to shed?

  2. What is right or wrong depends on the person, the country, and the time period. It cannot be judged from one aspect. However, l believe the law will help us judging as guidelines.

  3. Personally, the threat of imprisonment is one factor among others that deters me from committing serious crimes. I believe without it there would be more crime. That is not to say that imprisonment hasn't been abused by the authorities in many states as a tool of political repression. David :-)
